LAKE BIWA 

Lake Biwa (Biwa-ko) is the largest freshwater lake in Japan, located in Shiga Prefecture (west-central Honshu), northeast of the former capital city of Kyoto Because of its proximity to the ancient capital, references to Lake Biwa appear frequently in Japanese literature, particularly in poetry and in historical accounts of battles.

EXAMPLE ITINERARY:

3 NIGHTS / 4 DAYS: 

Living with a Japanese family is the best way to experience the Japanese way of life and gives plenty of opportunities for students to use the language they have been studying. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in organized school activities at a local school.

 

DAY 1

Arrive at BSC Watersports Center at midday and enjoy lunch.

Visit a local school for cultural and language exchange.

Overnight at BSC hostel.

 

DAY 2

After breakfast enjoy traditional Japanese cultural activities such as trying on yukatas (summer kimonos), paper crafts, cooking dishes like sushi and udon or soba making.

Lunch at BSC then meet host families

Dinner and stay overnight with host family.

 

DAY 3

Activities with host family or cultural experiences at BSC.

Dinner and stay overnight with host family.

 

DAY 4

Depart Lake Biwa in the morning.
